Rits Labs initially developed out of an internal company joke!
Essentially, we had so
many weird and wonderful ideas for new software, hardware and services
that we kept adding to a long list. Over time this became a very, very long
list, with more ideas than the people or time required to start them let
alone complete.
Only one or two ideas received attention at any given time and typically
these
tended to be ideas which were trend driven. In time the list became
known internally
as "Rits Labs", presumably on the basis that we could do something or
nothing
with the ideas as we pleased. Consequently, this resulted in some good
ideas being
abandoned mid-stream, other bad ideas getting too much time and
attention and yet others
never getting off the drawing board.
The solution to this unstructured and somewhat unwieldy approach to new
ideas is now officially "Rits Labs". We have introduced a structure to
ensure that we are able to pursue the good ideas to a logical
conclusion with internal and external help. Where appropriate, we take
on Interns or commission projects for Masters' Students. In some cases
we outsource development pilots and in the near future we plan to
oops ... well lets keep that one quiet for now.
Our experimentation at this stage covers both logical and physical
security needs. They range from privacy and accountability in the "cyber
world" to tracking and surveillance in the "real world".
Needless to say, most of what goes on in the Lab is secret, that is
until such time as we are ready to tell the world! This means that many
of our best ideas only get a mention here when they are in public beta
or on trial with "early adopter" clients.
We are however open to ideas and suggestions. We currently have a
number of research projects underway, internally and in the academic
world and we also have a
list of more ideas that we are looking for Interns to work on.
Additionally, some brave individuals among our
loyal client base are playing with beta versions of some of
the "lab experiments". This will help to ensure that they
are effective in the enterprises and IT environments in which they will
be deployed.
We also partner with other niche companies in
considering new ideas which may or may not be delivered in the
commercial world. Please browse the remainder of the site to see what
is going on or indeed contact us if you have any ideas you wish to
discuss.
Regards and best wishes from everybody at Rits and especially Alexis
FitzGerald (Chief Boffin) and myself Sean Reynolds (Chief annoyer of
the Chief Boffin).
